Barbie Parties – The Barbie Movie has a lot to answer for

Come on Barbie, let’s go party.

Let’s have a barbie party.

And if you’re a female doing the cooking, you’re a barbie girl.  🙂

In the movie world it’s all about a plastic doll.  In Australian lingo it’s all about cooking in the backyard on the four burner.  Either way there’s cause for lots of ah ah ah yeah!

Cranking up the barbie is Aussie for pushing the piezo button, warming up the hot plate and cooking a nice bunch of chops, a rib eye and some snags.  I don’t want to think about what cranking up a plastic Barbie is all about… although with all of the latest publicity for the new movie, there’s nothing cranky about her.  She’s a doll in more ways than one!

Now back to the Aussie BBQ train of thought.  Here at Yarra Valley Preserves, we have everything you could possibly need to douse your shrimp in something delicious before you toss it on the barbie.  Think Wok Toss, Saltbush & Black Garlic Mustard, or Black Garlic & Wild Thyme Worcestershire Sauce.

Crumb some lamb chop cutlets, barbeque them until they’re crunchy and serve with Mint Jelly.

Grill a rib eye and add a spoonful of Caramelised Balsamic Onions on the side.

Char some corn cobs and brush on some Roasted Capsicum & Chilli Relish or heat things up with some Mad Dog Chilli Sauce.

Make some sausages in bread and arrange a selection of complementary condiments in small bowls – think Horseradish Mustard, Dried Tomato & Basil Mustard, Mountain Pepper Tomato Ketchup, and Mad Dog Xtra Bite Spicy BBQ Sauce.

Take some Mad Dog Chilli Jalapeno Jam and create Jalapeno Jam Chicken Wings (see Recipe)

You can also be a bit liberal with your barbie party and toss in a few salads –  Salad Splashes from Yarra Valley Preserves’ range include Honey & Mustard, Mango & Sweet Chilli, and Balsamic flavours.  Try our Warm Mustard Potato Salad with Caramelised Onions recipe.

Make up some beef meatballs and a tomato base with a little Kasundi (Spicy Indian) Relish to taste.

And polish off the day with an Apple Pie Daiquiri (beware it has alcohol content in the recipe).

So there you have it.  Lots of ideas for your own barbie party.  Invite your friends, especially anyone by the name of Ken, Barbara or Allan, and let everyone know that it’s okay to dress up as one of the characters for the occasion.  I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!
